Chief Tonobok Okowa Re-elected AFN President
The incumbent President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, (AFN) Chief Tonobok Okowa, has been Re-elected for another term of four years.
Okowa, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, was returned unopposed at the 2025 elective congress of the AFN held at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on Thursday, June 12.
Tonobok Okowa polled 42 votes, with 4 voided votes in the mandatory congress approval to earn him re-election, as there were no opponents on the ballot.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, who inaugurated the new AFN Board, urged Okowa and his team not to allow any room for excuses.
Also speaking, the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, who observed the entire process, said though he didn’t want Tonobok Okowa, he won democratically, adding that the election symbolized democracy day in Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Tonobok Okowa urged all stakeholders to put the process of the election behind them, promising to right the wrongs of the last Board.
