Landlords of Agberuku Crescent, Mone Street, Agbolaya Street and Honourable Philip Ejeyi, a representative of other streets of the Ubeji Satellite Community in Warri South Local Government Area, have petitioned the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Delta State, Mr. Ekemejero Okwovoriole, (SAN) over perceived inaction by the management of NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited, to conduct a Joint Inspection Visit, JIV, to ascertain Case of Environmental Air Pollution, Degradation and Public Nuisance Occasion allegedly perpetrated by the company.

In the petition dated May 23, 2025 and signed by Samuel Esiegbuya, the property owners, claimed that the inaction by the management of NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited, was consequent upon a zoom meeting held October 23, 2024.

According to them, the virtual meeting, was attended by a representative of the Ubeji Satellite Community, representatives of the department of  Peoples Rights, under the Directorship of Mrs. Juliet Ojefia as well as “the Management of the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited erstwhile (NGC) represented by one Mr. Iyaya and his colleague, who blindfolded their faces to prevent identity”.

The petition, which copied Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori and Director General (DG) Department of State Services DSS, Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, stated inter-alia: “In reference to letters dated 18th March 2024, June, 11th 2024 and correspondences received from your office with reference numbers DTMJ. 10/1673/28 and a tripartite zoomed meeting held with your representatives 24th October 2024 all on the aforementioned subject matter.

“We the undersigned write to exhaustively express our displeasure and absence of accountability over the long standing disputable and yet-to-be resolved issue between us landlords and the Management of NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGC) as the style implies.

“Sir, It would be recall that on the 23rd October 2024, We the Landlords of Agberuku Crescent, Mone Street, Agbolaya Street and Honourable Philip Ejeyi a representative of other streets of the Ubeji Satellite Community held a Zoomed Meeting with the representatives of the department of  peoples Rights under the Directorship of Mrs. Juliet Ojefia and also the Management of the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited erstwhile (NGC) represented by one Mr. Iyaya and his colleague who blindfolded their faces to prevent identity for an unknown reasons to us during the ongoing conference and at the end of the said meeting, it was agreed and duly accepted that a Joint Inspection Visit (JIV) would be conducted to identify and assess these impacts, both positive and negative and to recommend mitigation measures to reduce or forestall the ever complained adverse effects on our health, properties and the environment as a whole.

“However, prior to the said concluded meeting and up till this very time of drawing your attention to the same matter and escalating same to other respective authorities, we have not heard or received any further information as in-line with the entire Community concern  or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from the delegates saddled with the responsibility of the obligations despite the severity, overwhelming and preponderance of evidences adduced with respect to the entire episodes and hence we are  appealing to you again that your office should please do the needful by revisiting the issue and take a pragmatic steps with regards to mediation, remediation an or possible judicial intervention in this whole issue of environmental misbehaviour, Public and Regulatory breached by the Company’ and its Management.

“Consequently sir, It may interest you to also know for accountable reasons that we have suffered, enduring setbacks and other environmental related challenges or affronts in the area owing to this gas flaring issue and such as polluted drinkable waters due to the acid rains, decaying painted walls,  Defacing floor tiles, General stains as occasioned due to the emitting droplets from the gas flask or Chimney, depletions, Collapsing inter locking stones, Corrugated roof sheets irrespective of the types and quantity like Aluminium, Galvanized Steel, Polycarbonate and even Bituen roof sheets etc are all affected as a result of the chemicals, degradation, public nuisance associated with the said Soot black otherwise known as (Hydro carbon) or particulate matter as it where, and considering also the adverse impacts and harmfulness to humans.

“To this very end sir,  We are not finding these whole environmental threats funny at all as we have made concerted efforts and seek all available means to bring the attention of the Company’s Management to a dialogue and amicable resolution, but all efforts was to no avail and now it is importantly imperative to note and for retention that we have endured this pains, long suffering, malicious damages to our hard earned properties and neglects due to double standard by NGC’s Management for over a decade as law abiding citizens of this state and by extension Nigeria at large with the rights to sound health, dignity of human person and clean environment as enshrined in Section 33, 34 and 20 respectively of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and so therefore to avoid societal lawlessness in the place as we can no longer tolerate an or compromise our well being and properties over the damaging and destructive operations of the erring Nigerian Gas Company Limited (NGC) as we have always consider self help not to be an option in any context of our human endeavours or dealings, but should the law fails an or not responsive then the other ways becomes defensively explorative as we have done everything possible to get respite or even justice through various advocacies with public outcries, but all our consistent efforts was futile without positive result due to outright disdained and lack of accountability by supposed leadership’s.”
