2026 UTME:
JAMB Lists Six States With Highest Incident of Exam Fraud

The body responsible for conducting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has revealed the six states with the highest cases of malpractice in the just-concluded examinations.
During a press briefing over the weekend, JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, noted that Lagos and Anambra states recorded the single highest cases of examination malpractice.
He disclosed that 80 examination malpractice suspects across different states were being interrogated.
From the figure of alleged examination fraud, Anambra topped the chart with 14 arrests, while Lagos followed with nine arrests.
The registrar noted that 13 incidents of impersonation and one case of mismatched photographs were recorded in Anambra.
The examination malpractice suspects arrested in Lagos were apprehended for impersonation, spying, and illegal possession of mobile phones during the exam.
Delta, Kano, Kaduna, and Rivers recorded 8, 7, and 6 cases of impersonation and phone possession during the examination.
Oloyede also revealed that applicants developed new fraud techniques during the registration and examination phases of the UTME.
Some of the new fraud techniques, according to him, include biometric manipulation, use of combined thumbprints between candidates and impersonators, double registration, and attempts to substitute oneself with an impersonator.
He added that these were reportedly done in collusion with some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
According to him, a blind candidate hired a blind undergraduate to sit the examination on his behalf.
