NiMet Issues Nationwide Weather Alert: Thunderstorms, Dust Haze Expected for Three Days
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and hazy conditions across the country from Tuesday to Thursday, warning the public to brace for unstable weather.

In a bulletin released Monday in Abuja, NiMet highlighted that northern states like Katsina and Kano will experience slight dust haze, while thunderstorms are expected in Taraba, Adamawa, and parts of the central and southern regions during afternoons and evenings.

Sunny intervals with cloud patches are expected across the North Central states, including Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT. Southern states such as Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa will see morning thunderstorms, which may later spread to Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, and Delta.

The stormy conditions are anticipated to persist through midweek, affecting states in the southwest, southeast, and south-south zones including Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Enugu, and Imo.

NiMet warned that strong winds may accompany the rains, increasing the danger of falling branches and flying debris. It urged people, especially those with respiratory conditions, to exercise caution as dust levels remain high.

Citizens are advised to stay indoors during severe weather, avoid driving in heavy rain, and unplug electrical devices. Airline operators were also urged to consult real-time, airport-specific forecasts for safe operations.

NiMet stressed the importance of staying updated via official channels as the country navigates this wave of shifting weather patterns.
