Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, suspended senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District has further alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio made “sexual advances” to her in the presence of five other senators at the National Assembly.
In an exclusive interview on BBC monitored by The Radarr , the Nigerian lawmaker, who’s on six month-long suspension for alleged violation of Senate Standing Rules, revealed that Senate President Akpabio made several sexist remarks about her to her utter disgust.
“Once we’re in his office and the Senate President asked me why I was not wearing my wedding rings. He then went on to remark that my husband was enjoying my waist and that I would be a nice delight.
“There were five other senators in the office with us and they all laughed at his jokes,” Senator Uduaghan alleged.
The embattled lawmaker also disclosed that several other female lawmakers across Africa has approached to encourage her to call attention to their plights of sexual predation by their male colleagues and people in positions of power. She said amidst tears that she’s ready to champion the collective interests of female legislators in the continent.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has been at loggerheads with Senate President Akpabio over allegations of sexual harassment she leveled against the latter. Although the Nigerian Senate had affirmed that she was suspended over her “unruly” conduct during plenaries, she had maintained that her ordeal was because of her refusal to give in to Akpabio’s advances
