As part of my continued consultations in the national interest, I travelled yesterday to Zaria, where I met with Professor Ango Abdullahi—renowned academic, elder statesman, and a respected voice in our national discourse. Our engagement focused on the state of our country, the urgent need for unity, and practical pathways to rebuilding Nigeria. We spoke frankly about the challenges confronting our nation and the responsibility of leadership to rise above divisions and work deliberately for the common good of all Nigerians.
While in Zaria, I also met at the airport a group of graduating pilots who approached me with enthusiasm and hope for the future. I encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to excellence, reminding them that Nigeria needs their skills, integrity, and professionalism.
From Zaria, I proceeded to Niger State, where I met with former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida. During an earlier visit a few months ago, he had referenced the book Growing Apart, which examines how two countries—Indonesia and Nigeria—once on similar development trajectories, diverged sharply, with Indonesia becoming a success story while Nigeria lagged behind. He advised that I obtain the book. On my return to the United States, I ensured I got an autographed copy directly from the author and, yesterday, respectfully presented it to him.
Our discussion centred on national unity, security, and the imperative of improving the lives of our people.
These engagements have once again reaffirmed my belief that meaningful progress can only be achieved through honest dialogue, inclusive leadership, and collective responsibility for the future of our dear country.
A New Nigeria is POssible.
