Is Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Dead?
Panic in Yenagoa as Bayelsa Deputy Governor Collapses, Hospitalized
Panic swept through Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Thursday after Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed in his office and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.
The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m., prompting an immediate emergency response. Witnesses said he appeared to be in critical condition as he was taken into the hospital’s emergency unit.
Medical sources confirmed that Senator Ewhrudjakpo has been stabilized and is currently receiving close monitoring in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). While no official statement has been issued on the cause of the health scare, early indications suggest a possible cardiac issue.
A source familiar with his schedule hinted that stress may have played a role. “He’s a workaholic. He really needs to slow down and rest,” the source said.
Security personnel have cordoned off areas around the hospital as top government officials continue to arrive to show support.
Efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful. However, hospital insiders told our correspondent that the deputy governor is receiving optimal care and remains stable.
