About 150 delegates of the Accord Party convened in Osun State on Wednesday to formally ratify Governor Ademola Adeleke as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2026 election.
Adeleke, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday citing internal crises, emerged as the sole contender for the party’s ticket. Delegates — five from each local government area — were already seated at the venue awaiting the start of the nomination process when proceedings began.
In a statement issued Wednesday morning, Elder Ibe Thankgod, Chairman of the Accord Screening Committee and the party’s National Organising Secretary, confirmed that Adeleke had met all requirements to participate in the primary election. He subsequently presented the governor with a certificate of clearance.
Thankgod described Adeleke as a “deserving aspirant,” commending his credentials and leadership record.
Responding, Adeleke expressed appreciation to the committee and party leadership for the confidence reposed in him.
“I am ready for the primary and I am ready for the general elections. We are winning by God’s grace,” he said.
With no challengers in the race, Wednesday’s delegate vote is expected to formally affirm Adeleke as the Accord Party’s flag bearer.
