Chevron Nigeria says it recorded zero incidents of sabotage and oil theft across its pipeline network in 2025 — the company’s best safety record in years.
Jim Swartz, Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria/Mid-Africa Business Unit, disclosed this during a recent visit to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) headquarters in Abuja, according to a statement issued by the Commission.
Swartz stated that Chevron had achieved a “remarkable milestone” in 2025.
“Chevron has not recorded any oil theft or attacks on our pipelines this year. This is the longest we’ve gone without oil theft,” he said.
Chevron to Join 2025 Licensing Round
The Chevron boss also announced the company’s intention to participate in the 2025 petroleum licensing round, reaffirming its long-term commitment to Nigeria.
“We will participate in the next licensing round. Our intention is to continue to grow in Nigeria,” he added.
Swartz praised the NUPRC for its transparent regulatory framework, especially the enforcement of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and the willing buyer, willing seller gas pricing model. He described the Commission as a “business enabler” under the leadership of its CEO, Gbenga Komolafe.
Chevron–TotalEnergies Farm-out Agreement
Swartz further revealed that TotalEnergies Nigeria had signed a farm-out agreement with Chevron for a 40% stake in Petroleum Prospecting Licences PPL 2000 and PPL 2001, covering offshore exploration assets. Chevron is now seeking timely approval from the NUPRC to accelerate development.
Nigeria Remains Strong Investment Destination — NUPRC
In his response, NUPRC Chief Executive Gbenga Komolafe said Chevron’s renewed investment interest reaffirms Nigeria’s attractiveness as an oil and gas investment hub.
Komolafe also welcomed Chevron’s report on zero oil theft, attributing the progress to policies introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the efforts of security agencies.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to a fully transparent and digital licensing round in 2025.
“We are committed to delivering a transparent licensing round which will be better than that of 2024. Our portal has gone live and we have 50 fields on offer,” he said.
On December 1, the NUPRC officially launched the 2025 Petroleum Licensing Round, targeting about $10 billion in new investments.
