More than 1,400 flights Cancelled As Historic Shutdown Continues
In excess of 1,400 commercial flights were cancelled on Saturday across 40 airports as the longest shutdown in the history of America continued after a failed weekend effort to patch it up.
The Federal Aviation Administration which authorized the cancellations, said the tally of cancellationss, put at 4 per cent of daily flights, could rise exponentially in the coming days if the shutdown which triggered it, subsists till the coming days.
The shutdown followed the inability of the Senate to agree, across party lines, the strategy to sustain funding of the government in the face of the lock.
Already, the shutdown has left more 678,000 Federal Government employees , including many in the aviation sector, without pay for two months running and causing a significant cut down on the volume of good aid for the elderly and vulnerable.
Now in the 40th day, the shutdown is the single longest in the history of the country , and President Donald Trump has urged Senators to put the national interest above partisan political considerations in order to resolve the shutdown.
The first term of Trump as America. President was equally characterized by a protracted shutdown.
