The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Sufiyanu Aliyu, of Gwanyal Village in Tangaza Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, disclosed this in a statement issued in Sokoto on Wednesday, noting that the tragic incident occurred on October 27, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m.
According to Rufai, the Command received a report around 8:00 p.m. from a good Samaritan in the same village concerning a violent domestic altercation at the suspect’s residence.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, Sufiyanu Aliyu, had a serious misunderstanding with his wife which later escalated. He allegedly used a knife to inflict fatal injuries on her, leading to her death,” the police spokesperson said.
He added that operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene, which was processed and cordoned off for forensic examination. The suspect was apprehended on the spot, and the knife believed to have been used in committing the crime was recovered as evidence.
Rufai said the victim’s body was taken to a hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the officers for their prompt response and reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged residents to embrace peaceful and lawful means of resolving domestic disputes and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
