The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday announced the suspension of several top officials believed to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in what appears to be a major shake-up within the opposition party.
Among those affected are Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s National Secretary; Kamaldeen Ajibade, National Legal Adviser; Okechukwu Osuoha, Deputy Legal Adviser; and Umaru Bature, National Organising Secretary.
The National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed the decision during a press conference in Abuja, saying it followed an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) convened to review recent developments in the party.
According to him, the suspensions were linked to “activities inconsistent with the party’s constitution and ethos,” though he declined to give specific details.
However, sources within the party told our correspondent that the move may not be unconnected with the deepening rift between the Wike faction and the main PDP leadership, led by Acting National Chairman Iliya Damagum.
Ologunagba added that further details on the disciplinary measures and the next steps would be communicated to the public in due course.
The latest development marks another flashpoint in the PDP’s lingering internal crisis, which has persisted since the 2023 general elections and the fallout over Wike’s perceived alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
