U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has officially designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing what he described as an “existential threat” to Christians in the West African nation.
In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump alleged that thousands of Christians in Nigeria are being killed by “radical Islamists” responsible for “mass slaughter,” referencing figures that claim 3,100 Christians have lost their lives.
The president instructed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to conduct an investigation into the matter and provide a detailed report.
“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries,” Trump wrote. “We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!”
