The Nigerian Senate has scheduled the screening of the newly appointed Service Chiefs for today, Wednesday, following a formal request from President Bola Tinubu for their confirmation.
President Tinubu’s letter, seeking legislative approval for the appointments, was read during Tuesday’s plenary session by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
After presenting the letter, Akpabio referred the request to the Committee of the Whole, which will handle the screening and possible confirmation of the nominees. He emphasized the urgency of the exercise, citing the nation’s current security challenges and the need for the new Service Chiefs to assume their duties without delay.
The Senate thereafter adopted Akpabio’s proposal through a unanimous voice vote, approving Wednesday as the date for the screening.
President Tinubu had earlier met with the newly appointed Service Chiefs on Monday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, ahead of their expected confirmation by the Senate.
