Abuja, October 24, 2025 – The newly sworn-in Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, has pledged to prioritize staff welfare and uphold the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections across the country.
Speaking at the INEC headquarters in Abuja during the handover ceremony from the Acting Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, Professor Amupitan urged staff of the Commission to work collectively towards achieving institutional goals and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process.
He assured that under his leadership, the Commission would provide a conducive working environment to enable staff perform their responsibilities efficiently.
“The integrity of our elections is not something we should even negotiate. It is the soul of democracy,” Professor Amupitan stated.
The INEC Chairman further described the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election as a critical test of the Commission’s readiness and commitment to delivering credible polls that reflect the will of the Nigerian people.
Earlier in her remarks, Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu expressed confidence in Professor Amupitan’s leadership, noting that he would build on the strong institutional foundation already established by the Commission.
She congratulated the new Chairman and assured him of the full support and cooperation of INEC staff across the country.
