The Osun State Government has appointed global Afrobeats icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as chairman of the newly established Osun Sports Trust Fund. The initiative is designed to mobilise financial support and drive a comprehensive overhaul of sports development across the state.
Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, disclosed the development when members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State chapter, paid him a courtesy visit in Osogbo.
Adewusi reaffirmed the administration’s commitment under Governor Ademola Adeleke to modernising sports facilities — particularly the ongoing upgrade of the Osogbo Township Stadium. He assured that the stadium, once completed, will meet Olympic standards and be capable of hosting major national and international competitions.
According to him, the state is also at the final stage of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central authority for sports governance, development strategies and policy execution.
He explained that the Sports Trust Fund, to be chaired by Davido, will unlock support from philanthropists and stakeholders within and outside the state, creating a sustainable funding framework for sports programmes.
Adewusi further noted that Davido readily accepted the role, expressing confidence that the superstar’s influence and passion for Osun would generate strong backing that will enhance the growth of sports in the state.
