Residents of Yewa South Local Government Area, Ogun State, have been thrown into grief following a fatal crash in which a Dangote Cement truck killed five passengers of a tricycle (Keke-Napep) at the Alapoka stretch of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.
The spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident, noting that it occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
According to Akinbiyi, the accident happened when the truck “lost its brakes and rammed into a tricycle conveying the five victims.”
He explained that the vehicles involved were “an unregistered tricycle and a Dangote truck with the number plate GRZ 767 XA.”
Akinbiyi added that once the crash was reported, “the Acting TRACE Head, Adedayo Omonayajo, and the Ilaro Divisional Commander, Salako Idowu, led a rescue team to the scene.”
However, tensions rose as agitated residents attempted to attack the officials, until operatives of the Amotekun Corps restored calm.
“The presumed dead were taken to the morgue by Federal Road Safety Corps officials,” Akinbiyi said.
