A domestic dispute over family planning nearly turned fatal on Friday night in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of Abuja, when a man allegedly assaulted his wife to the point of unconsciousness.
The victim, identified as Charity Olotu Fasasi, a mother of four, was reportedly beaten by her husband, David Fasasi Azeez, after an argument over family planning methods. Witnesses said the attack left her in a pool of blood before she was rushed to the Ushafa Community Health Centre, where she was hospitalized for several days and later regained consciousness.
According to residents, the conflict began when the family planning method adopted by Charity failed, leading to another pregnancy. The husband allegedly became furious and gave her ₦5,000 to terminate the pregnancy. The procedure resulted in heavy bleeding, which further escalated tensions between the couple.
Eyewitnesses told AIT that Azeez turned violent, blamed his wife for the abortion, and subjected her to a severe beating that left her critically injured. Neighbours eventually intervened and took her to the hospital for emergency care.
The suspect is currently on the run, while the FCT Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Calls and messages sent to the Command went unanswered as of press time.
