An unidentified young man has reportedly died while trying to steal the Agemo deity statue located at Mafowoku Roundabout on Folagbade Road in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Residents of the area woke up on Saturday morning, April 13, to discover that the golden Agemo statue — commissioned about 21 years ago — had been removed. Nearby, the lifeless body of a young man, suspected to have tampered with the statue, was found beside its remains.
A viral video circulating online showed a man in a blue top lying motionless near the fallen deity.
Local resident Hakeem Quadri confirmed the incident to Punch, saying, “It’s real — it happened right in front of my house. We heard people making noise, and when I stepped outside, I saw that the Agemo statue had been removed. The person believed to have committed the act was found dead at the scene.”
He added that the deceased’s body had since been taken to the morgue.
