The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh.
Those suspended include Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
According to the Assembly leadership, the disciplinary action came after a failed move to unseat Speaker Dajoh on Thursday night.
The House leadership described the lawmakers’ actions as a “direct affront to its leadership and internal order.”
Confirming the decision, the Assembly announced that the four legislators would be barred from all legislative activities for the next six months as part of disciplinary measures.
According to reports the suspension has further heightened political tension within the Assembly, with the leadership warning it will not tolerate acts capable of destabilising the legislature.
