Commuters and bystanders were thrown into confusion on Thursday morning when a train coach unexpectedly disconnected from the rest of its compartments along the Ladipo stretch of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. The incident caused a temporary halt in movement and heightened anxiety in the area.
The disruption began around 8:00 a.m. and continued for more than 30 minutes. The train, which was traveling from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa in Lagos, experienced a sudden detachment of its rear coach mid-journey.
According to an eyewitness, Oloruntoba Omodele, the sudden detachment startled both commuters and bystanders near the tracks. Despite the disruption, there were no casualties.
“Everyone was shocked by what happened, but thankfully, no lives were lost,”
Omodele recounted.
Ladipo, a location notorious for its intense vehicular congestion, has a history of transport-related mishaps, adding to public concern over recurring safety issues.
Emergency response teams were said to have arrived promptly to manage the situation and ease the traffic buildup caused by the disruption.
Although officials have not yet made any formal statements regarding the root cause of the mechanical failure, transportation experts are calling for a thorough investigation and a revamp of maintenance protocols—especially in high-density urban areas such as Lagos.
