221 British MPs Sign Letter Calling On PM Starmer To Recognize Palestinian State
…As Trump Dismisses French Palestine Recognition Plan
A coalition of 221 British Parliamentarians has called for the British Government to formally recognize a state of Palestine.
They made the call in a joint letter to Prime Minister Keith Starmer to follow the footsteps of French President Emmanuel Macron who, yesterday, said he would recognize the state of Palestine in September this year.
The letter of the Parliamentarians followed the release of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs of Parliament , which condemned Israel ‘s military and humanitarian policies in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
The report called for an immediate end to the Gaza war, the upscaling of humanitarian supplies to Gaza and the formal recognition of a Palestinian State.
The Committee, which draws membership from the entire spectrum of the British polity, regretted that Israel was not respecting the global desire for a prompt decisive review of its obnoxious policies in Gaza and the West Bank.
In London today, tens of thousands of Protesters, including Israeli Jews, demanded an end to Israeli impunity and inhumanity in Gaza.
They urged the British Government to follow in the footsteps of the French move to recognize Palestine.
The protests came as the American President, Donald Trump, dismissed the French Palestinian recognition move as weightless.
Trump, in a chat with the media before his trip to Scotland this evening, said though Macron remained a good team player, his decision to recognize Palestine carried no political and diplomatic weight.
Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had described the French move as a potential handsome reward for Hamas which Israel and its allies tag as a terror organization.
France,Britain and Germany today jointly issued a statement calling for an immediate end to the war and for a pathway to a two -state solution to the protracted Israeli -Palestinian conflict.
