2026 World Cup Qualifier: Super Eagles Arrive South Africa Without Star Boy Osimhen
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have touched down in Bloemfontein, South Africa, ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash with the Bafana Bafana — but without their talismanic striker, Victor Osimhen.
The Napoli forward sustained an injury during Friday’s encounter against Rwanda’s Amavubi in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He was forced off in the 37th minute and replaced by Cyril Dessers.
Nigeria eventually secured a narrow 1–0 victory thanks to a decisive strike from Tolu Arokodare.
Team doctors, however, confirmed on Sunday morning that Osimhen would not be fit to face South Africa after the injury spot worsened and became swollen.
The must-win tie in Bloemfontein is seen as a major test for the Eagles, who will now have to rely on their attacking depth in the absence of their prolific striker.
Pray for the Eagles.
