It may just be all over for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections as the four of its Governors prepare to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Those reportedly set to join the APC in the coming days include Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State.
In Bayelsa, 19 out of the 24 members of the State House of Assembly have already endorsed Governor Diri’s planned move to the APC. This development suggests that the entire PDP political structure in the state, including the legislature, could shift allegiance to the ruling party.
Governor Fubara of Rivers is also believed to have reached a peace agreement with his political mentor and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, to align with the APC. Sources say Fubara has not opposed the reconciliation deal, which was brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
In Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah is said to have finalized arrangements to defect with his political base to the APC. Reports indicate that he has already secured a political understanding with President Tinubu in preparation for the 2027 elections.
Similarly, reliable sources suggest that Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State is quietly concluding plans to join the APC bandwagon.
All four governors are expected to formalize their defection soon, a move that could mark a significant turning point, and possibly the final blow for the PDP ahead of the next general elections.
