The Nigerian Senate on Thursday confirmed Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi from Ekiti State as Chairman of the South-West Development Commission (SWDC).
Charles Akinola was also confirmed as the Managing Director, alongside 16 other nominees who will serve as board members of the commission.
This confirmation came after the Senate received and reviewed the report from its Committee on South-West Development Commission, led by Senator Yunus Akintunde (APC, Oyo Central).
While presenting the report, Senator Akintunde stated: “That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on the South-West Development Commission on the confirmation of nominations for appointment as Chairman, Managing Director, and Members of the Board of the South-West Development Commission.”
Those confirmed as board members include Bolaji Ariyo, Joseph Olugbenga, Scholastica Omoworare, Olumuyiwa Olabimtan, Adewinle Martins, Ibrahim Olaifa, Kabiru Lakwaya, retired General Abdul Adamu, Arinola Fagbemi, Ukoha Onyekwere, and Howell Ihenacho.
Also confirmed for executive roles are:
- Olugbenga Olufehinti – Executive Director, Projects
- Tele Ogunjobi – Executive Director, Finance
- Funmilayo Tejuosho – Executive Director, Corporate Services
- Fatai Ibikunle – Executive Director, Commercial and Environmental Development
- Lateef Ajijola – Executive Director, Social and Human Capital Development
President Bola Tinubu had earlier submitted the list of nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation. The request, read at plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was sent to the appropriate committee with a one-week deadline.
With the confirmation completed, the South-West Development Commission is now set to begin operations aimed at fostering socio-economic development across the six states in the region.
