The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) on Tuesday each lost a member of the House of Representatives to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defecting lawmakers, Hon. Peter Akpanke and Hon. Paul Nnamchi, formally announced their exit during plenary, with their defection letters read aloud by Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
Hon. Akpanke, who represents the Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwara Federal Constituency of Cross River State, was elected on the PDP platform. Hon. Nnamchi, from the Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency, secured his seat under the Labour Party banner.
Both lawmakers cited internal party crises and a desire to align with the policies and developmental agenda of the APC-led Federal Government as key reasons for their defection.
Their announcements were met with applause from APC lawmakers in the chamber. In response, Speaker Abbas welcomed and congratulated the two legislators on their new political alignment.
