Iran has begun attacking American military bases in Qatar and Iraq.
The attacks were conducted by the Iranian Army and the Iran Revolutionary Guards Corps.
Following the attack, Qatar closed its airspace, and said the Iranian missiles were intercepted.
Loud explosions were heard as far away as Doha after the missiles targeted the Al Udeid Air Base , which is the biggest American base in the Middle East and West Asia.
It houses some 10,000 American military and security personnel, which is about a quarter of the 40,000 personnel in the 19 such American bases in the region.
Qatar said there were no casualties in the attack on the base .
It condemned the attack and said that it reserved the right to respond.
A total of six missiles targeted the base which had largely been evacuated of personnel and hard core military assets.
In Iraq, the extent of the damage caused by the attack remained unavailable at press time.
Iraq houses some 2000 American military personnel, and their presence has been an object of great public concern.
Bahrain, which has American military assets, has closed its airspace, while the American military base in Syria has been out on red alert
