A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber detonated an explosive device at a crowded fish market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night, killing at least 10 civilians and injuring seven others.
The deadly explosion occurred at the popular evening market, which typically draws hundreds of local traders and residents.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said over 10 people had died, while investigations are ongoing to determine the exact number of casualties.
“Yesterday, around 22:00 in Konduga, just unfortunately, somebody invaded a gathering with a bomb, killing over 10 persons,” he said.
“We have deployed our EOD experts, together with the military and other security agencies, to the town.”
“Investigation is ongoing to ascertain what actually or really happened,” the PPRO added.
Eyewitnesses reported that the suicide bomber was burnt beyond recognition, while several of the injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
According to one eyewitness, “everything was going normal until that blast, making a loud sound. It was a devastating moment. Many people died.”
The attack reportedly occurred at the height of commercial activities in the market. The area has since been secured by military personnel to prevent further infiltration by suspected terrorists.
