Following a deadly attack by suspected herdsmen in Makurdi, the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) has made an urgent appeal for blood donations to help critically injured victims.
In the early hours of Thursday, armed assailants believed to be Fulani herdsmen launched coordinated attacks on Mtsewnem and Akondutyough villages, located in the North Bank area of Makurdi Local Government. The assault reportedly left several people dead and many others with life-threatening injuries.
The injured victims were rushed to BSUTH, where they are currently receiving medical attention. According to the Acting Head of Public Relations and Protocol at the hospital, Tsenzughul Moses, the condition of many patients remains critical.
“Following the recent tragic Fulani herdsmen attack in the early hours of today, many survivors have been rushed to Benue State University Teaching Hospital for treatment. These victims are in critical need of blood to survive,” the statement read.
In response, the hospital’s management is appealing to the public, especially residents of Makurdi and surrounding areas, to donate blood urgently.
“We are urgently calling on the public to donate blood and help save lives,” the statement continued.
Healthy individuals aged 18–65 are urged to “Please proceed immediately to the Haematology Department, Blood Bank Unit at Benue State University Teaching Hospital to make your donation.
“Your contribution can make the difference between life and death. Thank you for your compassion and swift response.”
The renewed violence has once again highlighted the ongoing security challenges in Benue State. Community sources confirmed multiple fatalities and extensive property damage as a result of the attacks.
Security personnel have reportedly been deployed to the affected areas to forestall further violence and restore calm.
