….No Democracy Day Parade
President Bola Tinubu will deliver a nationwide address at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, as part of events marking the 2025 Democracy Day celebration. He is also expected to attend a joint session of the National Assembly at noon in Abuja.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day confirmed the president’s itinerary in a statement released on Wednesday. The day’s events will conclude with a public lecture at 4:00 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre, themed “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms.”
However, this year’s celebrations will not feature the traditional parade.
This marks Nigeria’s 26th year of uninterrupted democratic governance since the end of military rule in 1999. Democracy Day, previously observed on May 29, was moved to June 12 in 2018 in honour of the annulled 1993 presidential election won by MKO Abiola.
