Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesperson to ex-PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has indicated that he may support President Bola Tinubu in 2027, on the condition that he formally joins the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Tuesday, Sowunmi stated that he would not support Tinubu while remaining in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“If I’m going to support Tinubu in 2027, by God and everything that is in me, I will leave and join his party,” he said. “I don’t believe in the nonsense that says you are in one party while supporting someone else.”
“I don’t have time for pretence, if I am not there, I am not there. I have been in PDP for 28 years and most of them don’t even have that record of 28 days.”
Sowunmi criticised the PDP for its failure to implement necessary reforms, stating that the current political landscape and his personal convictions make his continued stay in the party uncertain.
“I have screamed and shouted that we needed to reform the party. There is a very strong possibility that I may likely leave,” he added, citing developments in his home state and broader political environment.
