Delta Police recover 16 AK 47 Raffles, tackling insecurity – CP Abaniwonda
…Says Delta still one of the safest States in Nigeria
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has said that his special crack team recovered 16 AK 47 riffles from January to May this year, in different strategic operations across the three senatorial districts of the state
Speaking on Wednesday as Guest of Orientation Panorama, a public affairs programme of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, on Voice of Delta Radio, the State Police Commissioner represented by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that, apart from the 16 AK 47 rifles recovered within six months, there were other light weapons recovered from suspects, hardened criminals and their partners in crime across the state.
The State Police Chief attributed the huge success recorded by his command to the unwavering support and encouragement from the Governor and Chief Security Officer of Delta State, Dr (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, describing him as a pragmatic leader, and a team player who had been assisting the Police and other security agencies in the state in terms of logistics, equipment and insightful contributions during strategic security meetings.
He said the recent wave of kidnapping and security breaches in and around Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area was painful and unfortunate, adding that the situation was being tackled headlong by his gallant officers and men stationed at strategic locations in the university town of Abraka and environs.
CP Abaniwonda disclosed that Delta remained one of the safest states in Nigeria, with a robust economy, which was why there was a population surge in the state capital and across the three senatorial districts.
He urged Deltans and other residents to always provide useful information that could help the state police command to improve on her primary duty of protecting life and property in the state.
CP Abaniwonda disclosed that his command had upscaled strategic intelligence- gathering, effective policing and swift response to distress calls, leading to several arrests, seizure of arms and amunnition, as well as the prosecution of criminal elements and their associates.
The State Police Commissioner commended the Commander of the State Command’s Special Assignment Team, ASP Julius Robinson and team members, whose bravery, professionalism and dedication to duty had led to the arrest of several hardened criminal elements, and the recovery of 16 AK 47 riffles and other light weapons.
CP Abaniwonda asserted that his command recognized the efforts and selfless service of ASP Robinson with an Award of Excellence for his bravery,
- The State Police Chief pointed out that it would not be out of place for the state government, corporate bodies and well-meaning individuals to also appreciate and recognize the selfless service of ASP Robinson and his team members for their commitment, professionalism and bravery, especially for reducing the rate of crime in the state.
