Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has refuted reports claiming he said former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd), narrowly escaped an attack in Borno State.
The reports, based on his recent appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, were described by Ndume as a misrepresentation of his statements.
In a personally signed statement released Monday, the senator clarified that he was referring to Buratai town, not General Buratai.
“It was Buratai town in Borno State that was attacked, not the person of the erstwhile Chief of Army Staff,” he stated.
Ndume further explained that during the TV interview, he highlighted a recent insurgent attack near a military base in Buratai town, where soldiers engaged the attackers, who destroyed some military assets.
He reiterated that insecurity remains a national crisis, affecting all geopolitical zones, with the South-West being the only relatively stable region.
“I am surprised that the town Buratai could be misconstrued as the person of General Buratai, who incidentally hails from the town,” he added.
