South Korean President, Led Jae Myung, has taken the oath of office , just hours after the conclusion of the poll that brought him to the office as leader of the politically divided country.
Myung was elected with a significant vote advantage of a little over 3 million I. Tuesday’s vote, which came two years early.
At the crowded inauguration event in Seoul, Myung vowed to reset politics in the country which is the 10th most powerful economy in the world,but which had walked into crisis when, last year end, the military were invited to rein in the Parliament that the then administration said was adversarial.
However, the march of the military on the Parliament drew public angst, and citizens rose to douse the move which they called an attempted coup.
Following that, the government resigned after only two years in office, and an interim administration was instituted to conduct yesterday’s presidential poll that brought Myung into office.
Aside from resetting the politics of the country, Myung has to deal with the country ‘s relations with its tough talking nuclear power neighbour, North Korea, though he is generally regarded as more open to dialogue with Pyongyang.
He equally has to deal with the issue of a huge tariff regime imposed on the country ‘s exports by the Donald Trump Presidency, even though South Korea is host to a huge American military base which houses 30,000 troops.
Myung, 60, and a former factory worker, himself has allegations of bribery and abuse of land use mechanisms
