2027: Opposition May Register New Party
Stakeholder behind the snowballing talks on a political coalition for the 2027 general elections are critically examining the option of registering a new political party .
The party, the predicates of which are still in a dummy , is the platform on which core elements of the emerging coalition are pushing to contest the polls.
The Radarr confidants said that ongoing examination of a new political party is pegged on the horde of challenges that may arise from adopting an existing political party as its platform.
Sources said that the emerging coalition, led in the main by former presidential hopefuls Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, former Governor and Minister, Nasir El-Rufai, had reportedly been eyeing either the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or the African Democratic Alliance (ADC) as a potential platform.
However, there appears to be a change of heart as ” more youthful members of the coalition are leading a subtle campaign for the registration of a new party, ”
The subtle campaign is said to be led by a shadowy group by the name of “League of Northern Democrats ‘
Led by Dr.Umar Ardo and Admirals Monday Morgan and Jamila Malafa( both retired) , the League is said to be warning against adopting an existing party as its platform.
The league is anchoring its campaign on the need to avoid the structural, legal and other serious implications of such action.
It warned that adopting an existing party could trigger a wave of litigations as those holding party posts may resist the inherent restructuring in the event of that adoption, and thus cause factionalisation and the associated problems.
An insider warned that ” we must avoid anything that can cause unnecessary challenges for us from avoidable causes”
