Details have emerged as to how Delta State retained the overall winner’s title at the National Sports Festival (NSF) which has just ended.
This is according to the official medal tally published today by the Organizing Committee.
Delta earned 126 gold, 100 silver and 111 bronze medals, making a tally of 337 medals.
The tally of 126 gold medals implies that Delta collected more than a quarter( 25 per cent) of the 632 gold medals won at the event tagged Gateway Games.
The state’ s tally of 100 silver medals is also a significant chunk of the grand tally of 625 such medals won at the fiesta, while its 111 bronze is also a reasonable fraction of the 882 bronze medals taken home by the 37 participant contingents.
Hosts, Ogun State, placed second with 93 gold, 65 silver and 30 bronze medals.
In the third place is Bayelsa which won 92 gold, 65 silver and 71 bronze medals.
Rivers State is fourth, with 76 gold, 58 silver and 65 bronze medals, followed in the fifth position by Edo, with 73 gold, 101 silver and 119 bronze medals.
Oyo is sixth, with 38 gold, 37 silver and 51 bronze medals.
At the bottom of the table is Zamfara, with a lone bronze medal; Kebbi, two bronze and Kogi, four bronze medals.
In all, 2,139 medals were won by the 37 participating contingents.
The medals comprise 632 gold, 625 silver and 882 bronze medals.
