The Chairman , inter party advisory council,IPAC , Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantelle has advised the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to restore funding of political party’s in Nigeria, as that is only way to guarantee seamless democratic practices.
He said the current practice has given the ruling party more edge ahead of other opposition parties , stating that funding is fundamental in a political circle.
He made this observation in an interview program on channel television, one on one program, Political Paradigm in an interview session.
He said the only way to attract the best democratic governance and practices in Nigeria is to restore funding of political parties as a lot of activities of the 19 political parties attract huge funding.
Without funding according to him , the ruling party will continue to hold sway, while the remaining 18 opposition parties will remain lame duck, because money politics has taken over the country.
He commended INEC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for guaranteeing the practice of democracy in the country, not minding hitches , but pleaded for the restoration of funding of political parties to ensure a level playing ground.
The current trend of the people that matters hijacking political parties will continue, if INEC refused to fund political parties and that will not augur well for our democratic culture.
He said with funding, it is unthinkable for a one party state , stating that lack of funds for political parties has hampered sane , competitive and adequate attention towards democratic culture.
