A devastating attack by suspected herdsmen struck the Ikobi-Ochekwu community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State late Wednesday night, leaving multiple residents dead, including a soldier who had recently gotten married.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assault continued for several hours, with gunmen unleashing sporadic gunfire and setting homes ablaze under the cover of night. The full extent of the casualties remains uncertain, as many villagers are still unaccounted for.
“In the early hours of Thursday, two more bodies were discovered in nearby Ijaha, identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi,” a local source revealed.
Among the fatalities was a soldier reportedly newly married, though authorities have yet to confirm his identity or that of other victims officially.
The incident has left the community in mourning, and residents are calling for urgent government intervention to prevent further violence.
