Israel Orders Heightened Security at Embassies After Two Envoys Murdered In America
Israel has ordered heightened security across its embassies across the world after a lone gun man killed two of its embassy staff in Washington.
The suspect has been identified as Elias Rodriquez, 30 years, who, before and shortly after the shooting, had changed ” Free Palestine, Free Palestine ”
He has since been taken into custody but his nationality had yet to be made public.
The victims were identified as Yaro Lischinsky and Sara Milgrim.
They were attending an event at a Jewish Museum, just 15 minutes drive from the White House.
Embassy sources said Yaro was to propose to Sara next week.
It remained unclear how the suspect managed to access the venue which exact fact had been shared on a special platform with only those invited.
On the heels of the development, Israel blamed those who support anti- Semitism of responsibility for the attack, but failed to name names.
It called for enhanced security at its embassies across the world .
The attack came against the backdrop of the surge in public condemnation of Israel by various interests across the world, including its traditional allies, some of which had threatened to sanction Israel for its blockade of aid into Gaza and its disproportionate military action in both Gaza and the Occupied West Bank.
The Israel blockade had denied entry to food, water, medical and educational items into the strip which cultural , health and educational facilities have been mangled by Israeli military fire.
Israel says the military campaign was to defeat Hamas, which it tags a terrorist group, ensure the return of all hostages and the creation of a ned political reality in Gaza and the entire Middle East.
It followed the October 7,2023 attack on Israel by Hamas in which 1,200 Israeli soldiers, policemen and civilians , were killed, and more than 350 others abducted.
But the conduct of the military campaign, especially its high casualty figures- more than 60,000 killed and at least 103,000 wounded- and the targeting of journalists, Red Cross and health personnel, humanitarian interests and women and children, has drawn the anger of the global audience, elements of which have imposed trade and other sanctions against Israel
France, Britain and Canada this week issued a joint statement laced with threats of robust sanctions if Israel fails to end the blockage and its military stranglehold on Gaza and the West Bank.
