South African President ,Ramaphosa, Meets American President Trump Today
South African President , Cyril Ramaphosa, is set to meet his American colleague, Donald Trump, today, as part of efforts to restore warmth to their frosty diplomatic relations.
Both countries walked into the diplomatic valley after they squabbled over the stiff regime of tariffs imposed on the rainbow country by Trump, to which Pretoria responded with angst
Trump also accused the South African government of forcibly seizing land from white Afrikaners, who constitute the major land holders in the black,- majority country.
He accused Pretoria of black supremacist underpin in the handling of its land distribution policy.
The allegation has met with stiff denial by South Africa.
Following the disagreement, Trump offered free pass and citizenship to any Afrikaner willing to relocate to America.
The first batch of 49 Afrikaners arrived two weeks ago in America aboard an aircraft provided by the American administration.
Today’s meeting, the first between the American government under Trump and a black African President, is expected to focus on the 30 per cent tariff regime, disagreement over the land distribution policy and trade terms.
America is South Africa ‘ s second largest trading partner , with last year’s trade volume put at $2 billion.
