Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a full investigation into the tragic death of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade, who was fatally struck by a stray bullet in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Alade was reportedly on his way to sit for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) when he was killed. The Oyo State Government has since stated that the boy’s father was driving against traffic when the incident occurred.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the officer responsible for the shooting has been taken into custody. He added that the IGP condemned the incident and assured the public of a transparent and thorough investigation.
“The IGP has directed a comprehensive probe into the incident involving personnel from the Oyo State Police Command and the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYTMA), which led to the tragic death of Kehinde Alade,” Adejobi said.
The police chief also extended his condolences to the bereaved family and promised that justice would be served.
