The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta, Ilorin, due to persistent student unrest.
This decision was announced on Wednesday in a statement released by Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary to the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development. According to the statement, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, said the move was aimed at restoring order and ensuring the safety of students and staff.
The closures follow a series of violent student clashes, disruptions to academic activities, and damage to school property.
Dr. Olohungbebe clarified that only students currently writing the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), along with their teachers, would be allowed on the premises during the examination period. He emphasized that these students must carry valid identification cards when entering school grounds.
Parents and guardians have been urged to keep their children and wards at home during this period. The Commissioner also warned that any student found violating the directive would be dealt with by security personnel.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring safety in all public schools across the state.
