Amid rising speculation of a potential defection, former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on Monday visited former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in what he described as a meeting centred on national unity and development.
Malami shared highlights of the visit on social media, praising El-Rufai as a patriotic mind committed to national development and stating that their conversation focused on the “unity, peace, and progress of our dear country.”
The visit has stirred political chatter, as insiders suggest Malami may be plotting a move from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Reports indicate he’s leading a faction of disaffected politicians, mainly from the legacy CPC bloc unhappy with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
While no formal announcement has been made, Malami’s recent political activities have intensified talk of realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
