In order to ease the movement of vehicular traffic on the Sapele Road axis of Benin City and other surrounding areas within the Benin metropolis , Edo State Government begun remedial work on it.
This will make commuters and other road users heave a sigh of relief as Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commenced the rehabilitation of the old Sapele Road and other adjoining roads.
News of the development was broken by the Chief Press Secretary ( CPS )to the State Governor, Fred Itua.
According to Itua, the move is to ease traffic gridlock and reduce congestion on the main roads.
The Governor, while inspecting some of the ongoing road projects, said his administration would be judicious in the use of revenues accruing to the state to improve the quality of life of the citizens.
He assured Edo people of transparency and accountability.
Some of the sites visited were Evbukhu, Ogheghe, Old Sapele Road, Catholic Charismatic Way, off Upper Ekenhuan Road and Ugbiyoko.
Satisfied with the pace of work, Governor Okpebholo thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for increasing federal allocations to the States.
He added that his administration was utilizing the resources from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) in developing and growing the economy of the state and making life better for Edo people through practical positives governance.
He stressed that,on completion, the Old Sapele Road woukd divert traffic from the main road, thereby reducing heavy vehicular movement of goods and services and allowing motorists access alternative routes to their destinations, which, he noted, would l
significantly reduce the incidence of traffic gridlock in the axis.
He said: “Whatever we are doing as an administration in Edo State, we are doing for the benefit of Edo people. The President has made it easy for us as he has increased federal allocation, and with that money, we are developing Edo State, working to improve the lives of Edo people.
“Former governor Godwin Obaseki received Federal allocations also. He ought to have used the money to work for Edo people. He should be asked what he did with the money as my administration is working with our own, and all Edo people can see our projects across the state to improve their well-being.
“Edo belongs to us, and it is our responsibility as citizens of the state to unite and collaborate in developing and growing the economy for the benefits of all Edo people.
“We all need to join hands together to develop the State, as no one will do it for us if we do not. We cannot go to another state to bring people to develop our state for us; we have no choice but to develop it ourselves through unity and collaboration.”
