The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a stern directive to all foreigners residing in the country with expired visas to leave within three months or face serious consequences.
In a statement released on Friday by NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the agency announced a three-month grace period ending on August 1, 2025, for affected individuals to exit the country without incurring penalties.
After the deadline, offenders will be liable to a daily overstay fine of $15, and may face additional sanctions including bans of up to five years or even permanent blacklisting from entering Nigeria.
This new policy is set to take effect starting September 2025.
Additionally, the NIS has introduced mandatory digital documentation for travelers: an online landing card for inbound visitors and an exit card for those departing the country, both available on the official NIS platform.
