RESURGENCE OF CULT WAR: EDO POLICE NAB 95 SUSPECTS, RECOVER ARMS, AMMUNITION

In a major operation against spiralling insecurity across the state, the Edo State Police Command says it has arrested ninety-five (95) suspected cultists.
It equally recovered two (2) locally made pistols, one (1) single barrel shotgun and twenty-four (24) live cartridges in sustained intelligence driven raids of their enclaves in Benin-City and environs, in the past week.
Those being held are suspected of belonging to such alleged secret groups as Maphites, Eiye and Aye confraternities.
They are suspected of being responsible for recent surge in cult supremacy killings in the state.
News of the development was broken by the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, CSP Moses Kiel Yamu.
He said that, following the development,the Commissioner of Police, *CP Monday Agbonika, fdc* has consequently urged parents and guardians to keep a tab on the activities of their wards in order to curb the menace of cultism.
He warned youths in the state to desist from joining ‘unlawful societies ” that could only dim their future and ultimately claim thier lives or those of other innocent persons.
According to the PRO, Sixty-four (64) of the suspects have been charged to court and remanded, while investigation continued on the remaining suspects.
