PDP Appoints Ogidi Interim Chairman of Delta branch
In the wake of the recent mass defections that hit the party in Delta State, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador
Umar Damagum has directed the Emma Ogidi-led South-South Zonal caretaker executive to take charge of the running of the party affair in Delta state pending the constitution of a caretaker committee.
Speaking at the end of first meeting of the party leaders following the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the entire structures of the party in Delta State, the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC) said the party had instructed its National Legal Adviser to approach the court “and do the needful.”
Damagum said the move was part of the outcome of the meeting of the NWC, saying the zonal committee was, therefore, mandated to move to Delta and take stock of the party inventory towards recovering them.
Damagum affirmed that the NWC deliberated on the recommendations of the state governors on the position of the National Secretary and approved the recommendation of the Governors’ Forum to allow the National Executive Committee (NEC) to have the final say.
- Meanwhile, in a telephone chat, Elder Ogidi confirmed the development, noting that as an experienced politician, he chose not to defect to APC along side with the governor.
