At least 19 persons died and 160 others injured when a large military aircraft of the Bangladeshi Military crashed this afternoon on take-off into a school campus.
The jet was on its first training flight when it lost power and crashed into a campus of a densely populated school in the industrial axis of Dhaka. The aircraft crashed minutes after it took off.
It was on a solo flight and witnesses said that the pilot, in spite of obvious strident efforts, could not regain control of the aircraft before it crashed into the school in session and triggered an explosion that caused an inferno.
The dead included students, teachers and parents who had come to fetch their children as the school closed for the day.
Emergency workers said the death toll could rise significantly because of the severity of many of the casualties hospitalized with third degree burns.
